Great Green Macaw Program

Great Green Macaw

Habitat loss has had a devastating impact on the great green macaw, a unique species of macaw that mates for life and lives as long 70 years. Fewer than 30 nesting couples survive in the remaining Costa Rican forests. If the great green macaw is to survive, surveys of existing populations and nest-protection programs are desperately needed, as well as funds to develop environmental awareness programs for local residents.
